Job Summary

The City of Bentonville is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist III to join our team. This role is responsible for processing, handling, and maintaining data and records to support financial disbursements made by the City.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a working knowledge of governmental accounting related to duties and a strong knowledge of city policies.
  • Process and handle vendor payments, including maintaining vendor files and ensuring vendors are set up correctly for 1099 reporting purposes.
  • Track monthly payment checklists to ensure vendor payments are made before due dates.
  • Enter invoices for weekly check runs and prepare monthly phone bill allocations.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and review vendor statements.
  • Compile and sort documents substantiating business transactions.
  • Process employee travel requests and validate documentation received.
  • Maintain Accounts Payable records and assist with year-end processes.
  • Audit and approve purchasing card statements in accordance with the City's purchasing card policy.
  • Report and research fraudulent transactions and assist with maintaining the City's purchasing card program.
  • Provide training to new purchasing card users as necessary.
  • Maintain WEX Card Program and prepare monthly expense allocations.
  • Prepare analysis of accounts as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, college-level business classes or degree highly preferred.
  • 2+ years in prior Accounts Payable experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and communicate professionally.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
