About the Job

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at Vets Hired. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting the community, and upholding the law.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patrol Techniques: Receive training as a two-person team in patrol techniques using a marked police car, observing and assisting experienced officers in responding to calls for service.
  • Investigations and Arrests: Receive training in basic investigations and making arrests, searches, and evidentiary seizures of property, and demonstrate proficiency in these investigations/arrests.
  • Traffic Law Enforcement: Receive training in and ultimately demonstrate proficiency in traffic law enforcement, crash investigation and reporting, citing and occasionally arresting traffic violators, and promoting transportation safety in accordance with state and local laws.
  • Community Policing: Serve as a member of various employee committees and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Special Requirements: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age by the start of the next scheduled Basic Peace Officer Course, meet applicable Civil Service Requirements, successfully complete the entry-level police examination, and meet all minimum employment requirements.
Critical Physical Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Foot Pursuits: Execute foot pursuits that may include sprinting up to 100 yards, running for sustained periods of time up to 5 minutes, running up and down stairs, typically two flights, dodging around obstacles, crawling up to 15 feet under obstacles, jumping and vaulting over obstacles up to four feet high, and climbing fences up to six feet high.
  • Lifting and Carrying Tasks: Perform lifting and carrying tasks, including lifting light (under 25 pounds), moderate (25-100 pounds), and heavy (over 100 pounds) objects, carrying those objects up to 50 feet, extracting victims from vehicles, dragging objects weighing up to 100 pounds, and dragging suspects or victims up to 200 pounds up to 20 feet.
  • Pushing and Pulling Activities: Perform pushing and pulling activities, including pushing objects weighing up to 200 pounds up to 20 feet, pulling objects weighing up to 200 pounds up to 25 feet, and pushing vehicles up to 50 feet.
  • Use of Force: Be capable of using force by pushing and pulling in self-defense situations for periods of time typically lasting up to 90 seconds, less frequently using force by pushing and pulling in self-defense situations for sustained periods of time greater than 2 minutes, restraining suspects typically weighing 180 pounds using hands, feet, and restraining devices.
  • Range of Motion Activities: Perform range of motion activities, including bending to get in and out of vehicles, bending and twisting in use of force situations.
Physical Abilities:
  • Aerobic Power: Possess aerobic power or cardiovascular endurance for foot pursuits and use of force situations lasting more than two minutes.
  • Anaerobic Power: Possess anaerobic power for shorter foot pursuits and other tasks requiring intense efforts of short duration.
  • Upper Body Muscular Endurance: Possess upper body muscular endurance for carrying, surmounting obstacles, and use of force.
  • Upper Body Absolute Strength: Possess upper body absolute strength for lifting, pushing, pulling, dragging, carrying, and use of force.
  • Lower Body Explosive Power: Possess lower body explosive power for sprinting, jumping, climbing stairs, vaulting, and pushing vehicles.
  • Agility: Possess agility for moving quickly around objects and obstacles in pursuit situations.
