POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Redondo Beach is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Reserve Police Officer. This position is voluntary and non-compensated, with uniforms and safety gear provided.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Level II

As a Level II Reserve, individuals will be expected to contribute a minimum of 16 hours per month across various assignments, which may include both uniformed and undercover duties. Responsibilities encompass emergency response, general law enforcement tasks, prisoner transport, participation in special events, and other duties as directed by supervisory personnel. While on duty, Reserve Officers operate under the direct supervision of a regular officer and possess the same law enforcement authority.

Level III

Level III Reserves will have the authority to make arrests while on duty. They will be assigned to carry out specific duties that do not require full law enforcement powers. All Reserve Officers are required to attend monthly training sessions and may need to participate in firearms training. Compliance with the Reserve Officer Field Training and Evaluation Program Manual is mandatory.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge: Familiarity with law enforcement protocols, techniques, and equipment; understanding of applicable state, county, and local regulations; knowledge of the local geography.

Skills: Ability to accurately observe and recall names, faces, incidents, and locations; proficiency in firearm usage and maintenance; capacity to think and act swiftly in emergencies; capability to learn and interpret laws and regulations; skill in preparing clear and accurate written reports; ability to meet physical employment standards; competence in establishing effective working relationships; proficiency in computer operations; understanding of police radio communication protocols; ability to follow oral and written instructions; proof of U.S. citizenship.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; must be at least twenty-one (21) years old at the time of appointment; valid California driver's license required. Level II candidates must have completed a P.O.S.T. Certified Level I or II Basic Reserve Academy prior to appointment. Level III candidates must have completed a P.O.S.T Certified 832.6 P.C. 64-hour class prior to appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS: Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, and training. Qualified candidates will be invited for an oral interview. Successful candidates must pass a background investigation, security clearance, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and a polygraph examination.
