POSITION SUMMARY
Under general oversight, this role encompasses a range of non-sworn law enforcement responsibilities that support the operations of the Police Department, particularly in jail management, police documentation, and administrative functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Jail Management
- Responsible for the intake, care, and safety of detainees within the facility, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards of the jail environment.
- Assist in the search and processing of detainees, completing necessary documentation and conducting warrant verifications.
- Conduct regular inspections of the jail facility to ensure the well-being of all individuals in custody.
- Manage inmate visitation processes.
- Prepare and serve meals to detainees while maintaining security during transfers.
- Handle communication, including phone calls and messages, while maintaining contact with law enforcement personnel.
- Address inquiries, manage complaints, and document reports as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Police Documentation
- Receive and direct emergency and routine service calls.
- Engage with the public to facilitate information exchange.
- Maintain accurate records and files in compliance with legal requirements.
- Operate data entry and retrieval systems.
- Compile and analyze criminal statistics.
- Support the processing of records and related information.
- Log messages and notify supervisors of emergencies and significant activities.
- Carry out clerical tasks related to record maintenance and operational logs.
- Adapt and enhance record-keeping systems to meet departmental needs.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Administrative Duties
- Ensure the availability of necessary supplies for efficient facility operations.
- Manage various correspondence and documentation.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Process incoming mail, faxes, and collected funds.
- Conduct fingerprinting for background checks.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Requirements:
- Understanding of basic law enforcement principles and their application to non-sworn services.
- Familiarity with record-keeping practices and procedures.
- Proficient in customer service techniques and communication skills.
- Strong organizational capabilities.
- Knowledge of police record systems.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to perform various non-sworn law enforcement tasks effectively.
- Capability to interact professionally with law enforcement personnel, the public, and detainees.
- Strong verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn and retain departmental policies and procedures.
- Proficient in operating office equipment and data entry systems.

Education and Experience:
- A combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills is required. Typically, this includes educational attainment equivalent to high school graduation and the completion of a basic jail operations course within the probationary period.
Licenses/Certificates:
- A valid Class C California Driver's License with a clean driving record is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
