The City of Huntington Beach Police Department is in search of individuals who have successfully completed a POST Certified Police Recruit Academy and Training Program.
As a police officer, you will be tasked with various law enforcement responsibilities within assigned divisions, including patrol, special operations, investigations, or administrative services. Typically, the initial assignment for a police officer is within the Patrol Division.After gaining adequate experience in patrol duties, officers may qualify for roles in the Special Operations Division, Investigations Division, and Administrative Division.
Your duties will include patrolling designated areas by vehicle, motorcycle, or helicopter, investigating suspicious activities, responding to emergency situations, and providing assistance as needed. You will conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations on various incidents, including disturbances, thefts, accidents, and more.
Additionally, you will gather and preserve evidence, prepare reports and documentation for court presentations, maintain case files, and log daily activities related to emergency responses. Responsibilities also include issuing citations, apprehending suspects, directing traffic during emergencies, and searching for stolen property and missing individuals.
Moreover, you will perform desk officer duties, providing information and assistance to the public both in person and over the phone. You will analyze departmental activities and report on the effectiveness of current programs, compile statistics, and assist in training new recruits and other sworn personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge:
Familiarity with public safety laws and regulations, including proper search and seizure protocols.
Skills:
Ability to apply public safety laws in real-world scenarios; adept at analyzing situations and responding effectively during emergencies.
Education:
Completion of high school or equivalent experience and training is required. Specific coursework may be necessary for career advancement within the department.
Experience:
Successful graduation from a POST Certified Police Recruit Academy and Training program is mandatory.
Licensure:
A valid driver's license is required, or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
SELECTION PROCESS:
All candidates must complete an official online application in full. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Applicants must attach proof of completion from a POST certified police academy. All applications will be thoroughly reviewed for relevant experience and qualifications.
Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a physical agility test, which includes various exercises designed to assess fitness levels.
Successful candidates will then proceed to an Oral Interview, which will be evaluated on a weighted basis.
Selected candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for potential hiring. This list remains valid for a specified duration unless it is exhausted sooner.
Candidates under consideration for employment must undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting, polygraph examination, credit checks, and reference verifications.
Upon receiving a conditional job offer, candidates must complete a medical evaluation, psychological assessment, and drug screening with satisfactory results.
Upon employment, individuals will be subject to ongoing reporting from law enforcement agencies.
