Position Overview

As a Lead Behavioral Scientist, you will:
  • Deliver expert programmatic and scientific guidance in the domains of preparedness and response research, focusing on evaluation issues that impact program initiatives.
  • Define the vision, objectives, organizational structure, priorities, and performance benchmarks for the Office.
  • Act as a primary consultant to the Division Director in developing both long-term and short-term strategic plans, operational policies, and programmatic strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with Branch Chiefs within the Office to ensure the alignment of Division activities, facilitating the application of research outcomes into practical program execution.

Conditions of Employment

To meet the requirements of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), candidates must be U.S. citizens. Additionally, males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. A background/security investigation may be required, and security clearance levels may vary based on the position.

Applicants may need to undergo a one-year probationary period and may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Candidates must demonstrate or show potential for the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities, particularly in supervisory roles.

Financial disclosure requirements may apply under the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, and selected candidates may need to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report to identify any potential conflicts of interest.

This position adheres to a Drug-Free Federal Workplace policy, which may include drug testing and random drug screening.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • A degree in behavioral or social science, or related fields relevant to the position.
  • Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that provides knowledge equivalent to a major in behavioral or social sciences.
  • Or, four years of relevant experience demonstrating knowledge equivalent to a major in the field.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which includes:

  • Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating scientific studies and programs related to public health at various governmental levels.

Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles through National Service programs and other organizations.


Additional Information

This position is eligible for telework and may include flexible work scheduling options. Employees will be required to sign a Workplace Flexibilities Agreement outlining remote work conditions.
