In a high-impact environment, we seek a Lead Applied Scientist who can spearhead critical initiatives focused on Security, Reliability, and Quality through advanced AI solutions, collaborating with a diverse team of Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, and Data Scientists.

Required Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 6+ years of relevant experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Master's Degree in the same fields AND 4+ years of relevant experience OR Doctorate in the same fields AND 3+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent experience.


Other Qualifications:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements are necessary for this role.

These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will require passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:


3+ years of experience in developing and deploying products or systems at various stages of the product cycle from ideation to delivery. 3+ years of experience in deploying live production systems as part of a product team. 5+ years of experience conducting research within a research program (in academic or industry settings). 2+ years of experience presenting at conferences or other events as an invited speaker. 5+ years of experience in creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers).

Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 9+ years of relevant experience OR Doctorate in the same fields AND 6+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent experience.

Experience with OpenAI, Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, langchain, or other machine learning frameworks.

Experience in delivering AI product features, AI Frameworks, and AI Skills/plug-ins. Relevant prior work experience in statistics, predictive analytics, research, or GenAI.

As a Lead Applied Scientist in our team, you will:


  • Engage with product and business groups to drive the impact of AI projects throughout the lifecycle from idea creation through technology transfers, applied research, experimentation, implementation, and finally to global availability.
  • Work with large-scale computing frameworks, data analysis systems, and modeling environments to build and apply models to real products, verifying effects through iterations.
  • Conduct rigorous experiments and evaluations to assess the quality and impact of your solutions, refining them based on data and customer feedback.
  • Communicate technical findings and insights effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including researchers, applied scientists, engineers, product managers, and designers to enhance the end-to-end AI Quality of our production systems.
  • Leverage data from various sources and domains to design and implement innovative solutions that meet rigorous metrics and address customer needs.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced scientists in the team, managing project schedules, milestones, KPIs, reviews, and checkpoints.
  • Ensure compliance with Microsoft Responsible AI standards throughout the AI system lifecycle.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in machine learning, information retrieval, and recommendation systems, contributing to the company's intellectual property through patents and publications.
