Position Overview
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic role at Houston Methodist involves providing essential patient care and support services to a diverse array of patients and their families. This includes performing EKGs and collecting laboratory specimens under the supervision of licensed nursing staff or healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities
This position entails executing daily living activities within established unit-specific parameters and job responsibilities. The EMT/Paramedic is expected to demonstrate proficiency in communication and task execution, conducting regular patient rounds to ensure all needs are addressed while meticulously documenting data as per established protocols. Observations and patient concerns must be reported to the supervising nurse or provider promptly.

Team Collaboration
The EMT/Paramedic functions as an integral member of the healthcare team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. This role includes mentoring new EMTs and ancillary staff regarding unit protocols and readiness, particularly in patient decontamination processes.

Patient-Centered Care
Adhering to the principles of Patient and Family Centered Care, the EMT/Paramedic provides direct patient care under the guidance of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include documenting comprehensive screenings, treatments, and procedures in alignment with established policies, while ensuring cultural sensitivity and inclusion.

Quality and Safety
Utilizing rapid assessment skills, the EMT/Paramedic identifies patient conditions and communicates critical findings to the healthcare team. This role also involves managing incoming patient information and maintaining patient privacy and safety at all times.

Professional Development
The EMT/Paramedic is encouraged to pursue ongoing education and training opportunities to enhance skills and competencies. Participation in performance improvement initiatives and shared governance activities is also expected.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with completion of an EMT-Paramedic program or current enrollment in such a program. A minimum of six months of pre-hospital or hospital experience as an EMT or Paramedic is required. Licensure and certifications in accordance with state regulations are mandatory.
