Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic in Texas, in accordance with state regulations. NREMT certification is advantageous but not mandatory
- Current CPR certification as per the standards of the American Heart Association. ACLS and PALS certifications are preferred but not essential
- At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory paramedic role within a 911 service
- Valid Texas driver’s license in good standing
POSITION SUMMARY: Deliver timely and effective pre-hospital advanced and basic life support care and transportation for the ill and injured, adhering to local, state, and national practice standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Unless specified otherwise, the following tasks are deemed essential for this role:
- Perform thorough assessments of patients to identify signs and symptoms of medical conditions or injuries, collaborating with other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Administer prompt and effective basic life support within the scope of licensure or certification, following established protocols before and during transport.
- Ensure safe handling of patients during transfers to and from the ambulance.
- Facilitate secure and efficient transportation of patients to medical facilities.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with team members and management.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety regulations.
- Physically assist in lifting patients from beds or emergency sites onto stretchers and into ambulances; carry patients and equipment; navigate stairs or steps (minimum weight of 125lbs).
- Ensure safe and accurate transfer of patients and relevant care information to receiving medical personnel.
- Document all aspects of patient condition and treatment in EMS run reports, collecting and recording necessary non-medical patient information.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and equipment testing to ensure all necessary equipment is present, clean, and functional.
- After transport, fulfill all assigned duties to return the ambulance and equipment to service.
- Maintain full knowledge of the ambulance's equipment and its proper usage at all times.
- Report all required repairs to maintenance departments and notify supervisors and other ambulance personnel as necessary.
- In the absence of other qualified personnel, manage the patient's environment.
- In both emergency and non-emergency situations, operate the ambulance safely and efficiently, adhering to company driving guidelines to ensure the safety of all occupants.
- Comply with all FCC regulations when using electronic communication equipment.
- Attend all mandatory meetings as scheduled.
- Complete assigned duties related to the station and its grounds.
- Order supplies and equipment from the Supply department to replenish ambulance inventories as necessary.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the ambulance as required.
- Uphold patient/customer privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Demonstrate the ability to function effectively in high-stress environments.
- Adapt to a high call volume service with minimal rest periods.
- Be prepared to work a 48/96 schedule.
