STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Overview of Job Classification:
This role involves assisting self-represented litigants in navigating the court system effectively and efficiently while educating them on relevant court statutes, rules, policies, and procedures within legal boundaries to ensure proper and swift handling of court cases.

Salary offers commence at the minimum of the advertised range, with relevant experience taken into account. A talent pool may be created as a result of this recruitment process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To successfully perform this role, an individual must effectively execute the essential functions outlined below. 1. Assist pro se litigants with procedural matters related to domestic relations cases, small claims, civil lawsuits in district and county courts, name changes, evictions, adoptions, estate issues, guardianships, conservatorships, appeals, deregistration, and sealing of criminal records. Provide and solicit internal and external resources for pro se litigants.

2. Inform self-represented litigants about available options and assist them by providing information regarding state statutes, rules, policies, and procedures. Address inquiries and review documentation for accuracy without offering legal advice. Clarify court processes related to scheduling hearings, mediation, status checks, court limitations, and general follow-up for self-represented litigants.

3. Organize and facilitate monthly legal clinics with volunteer attorneys focusing on primary domestic, civil, and probate case types. Coordinate large-scale resource events.

4. Collaborate with judicial officers and supervisors to review and enhance procedures aimed at ensuring quality court representation, managing case flow, and advising self-represented litigants on procedural matters. Draft, review, and revise procedures, forms, and flowcharts.

5. Work in partnership with external stakeholders, including attorneys and non-profit organizations. Participate in various state and local committees and training sessions.

6. Engage in community outreach initiatives to strengthen and identify resources for self-represented litigants. Develop educational tools and resources and maintain the relevant website.

7. Complete mandatory training and attend meetings as required.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position may involve occasional oversight of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary staff. The majority of work performed by employees in this role is complex.

HUMAN COLLABORATION:
This role may require providing guidance to individuals outside direct reporting relationships on specific issues or general policies. Contacts may necessitate consideration of diverse perspectives to reach consensus. Persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas, with interactions having significant impact.

FREEDOM TO ACT & IMPACT OF ACTIONS:
Receives Limited Direction
Employees typically perform assignments based on their judgment, seeking supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with minimal oversight, and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is evaluated periodically, with a moderate impact of actions.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Advanced: This role requires advanced skills and extensive knowledge of the work. The incumbent can manage complex tasks and interpret intricate nuances related to job aspects. Recognized by peers within the organization for technical expertise, the likely impact on the organization is standard.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
May assist in gathering data to support recommendations for budget allocations within the functional area. May monitor division or program-level budgets and expenditures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Equivalency:
A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.

OR
Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience:
1 to 3 years of experience in legal, social work, or a similar field.

Licenses and Certifications:
None.

Physical Effort Requirements:
Sedentary Work - Involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly moving objects, including the human body. Sedentary work primarily involves sitting. Jobs are considered sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally.

Work Environment:
Generally free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

Work Location:
Office or similar indoor environment.

Exposures:
Individuals who may be hostile or irate; individuals with known or violent backgrounds.
