Role Summary:

  • The Structures Company is seeking a Senior Avionics System Engineer in Bothell, WA (or) Marysville, WA.
  • Responsible for the advanced design of avionics systems, including cabin components, in-flight entertainment, communication systems, LED cabin lighting, and power systems, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, quality standards, FAA regulations, budget constraints, and project timelines.
  • Develops a comprehensive drawing list for avionics systems documentation required for project-level STC.
  • Defines the architecture requirements for avionics and electrical systems tailored for VIP/VVIP aircraft.
  • Creates wire diagrams and preliminary routing using engineering drafting tools.
  • Reviews and approves drawing packages from peers for release.
  • Establishes verification and testing procedures in accordance with the latest FAA design standards.
  • Facilitates system installations by collaborating with modification facilities, troubleshooting issues, and updating designs to adhere to schedules.
  • Engages with internal and external customers, FAA representatives, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle to ensure compliance with all requirements.
  • Participates in project bidding processes to gather engineering and design requirements for estimates and quotes.
  • Assists in scheduling avionics systems projects to ensure alignment with key milestones and deliverables.
  • Prepares design checklists, templates, and other necessary documentation.
  • May serve as a functional 'Focal' for specific projects.
  • Maintains close collaboration with project engineers to ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.
  • Mentors and supports other engineers in technical design and processes.
  • Ensures consistent attendance and punctuality in the workplace.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or electrical engineering preferred; minimum of eight years of relevant aerospace experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Ability to meet high expectations for schedule, budget, and technical solutions.
  • Experience in prototype engineering processes.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise under tight deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of avionics, including locating, provisioning, and installations for LRUs, as well as 3D wire routing.
  • Preferred experience in aircraft interiors and VIP retrofits.
  • Strong familiarity with Boeing aircraft for VIP and commercial models.
  • Proficient in using CAD and data management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Ability to work outside of standard business hours when required.
