AcuraStem has established the iNeuroRx platform, which employs human iPSC-derived cells to replicate neuromuscular and neurodegenerative conditions such as ALS and FTD.

Position Summary: The Principal Scientist will oversee and enhance AcuraStem's cutting-edge platform technology, leveraging human iPSC-derived various CNS cell types to model neurodegenerative diseases and mirror disease characteristics. This platform will be instrumental in target discovery, validation, lead selection, and biomarker assessment. We are looking for candidates with extensive expertise in iPSC neurodegenerative disease models, high-content imaging, and assay development. The successful applicant will manage external partnerships and collaborate with internal teams to achieve early discovery research objectives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to developing innovative technologies and executing plans that yield high-quality scientific outcomes. This role is also responsible for aligning the strategic vision of the platform team with the broader business goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Innovate and implement all-human platforms to facilitate drug discovery and early-stage development.
  • Formulate and guide research strategies and activities to achieve program goals; provide leadership on projects, timelines, and contingency strategies.
  • Utilize analytical methodologies, including experimental design and statistical process control, to identify and resolve assay performance challenges. Conduct statistical evaluations and devise solutions to enhance assay performance by minimizing variability and refining assay designs.
  • Communicate findings to both internal and external stakeholders, including leadership teams, partner organizations, and scientific forums.
  • Contribute to the preparation, editing, and review of documentation for regulatory submissions (e.g., study reports, Investigational Brochures, INDs, etc.).
  • Engage in writing grant proposals and progress reports.
  • Collaborate across departments and disciplines, serving as a scientific authority.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring team members and fostering individual growth and career advancement.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. with specialization in various neuroscience fields, including ALS, FTD, Tauopathies, or oligonucleotide therapies.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience is required for the Principal Scientist role.
  • Extensive experience with iPSC differentiation protocols for neurons, neurospheres, and organoids (experience with glial cells and muscle cells is advantageous).
  • In-depth knowledge of neurodegenerative disease models, particularly TDP-43 proteinopathies.
  • Experience with high-content imaging platforms.
  • Proven track record in managing project timelines and resources effectively.
  • Experience in a matrixed environment; experience in small companies or startups is preferred.
  • High motivation and a demonstrated history of achievement.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment as a collaborative team player with a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and effective time management.

This is a full-time, regular on-site position.

Compensation:

At AcuraStem, we are committed to fostering a diverse and equitable workplace. The salary range for this position is $138,000 – $195,000, with compensation influenced by various factors, including qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
