Position Overview

The AWS Center for Quantum Computing is a collaborative environment where a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and technicians work together to advance the field of quantum computing for our clients.

Role Summary
We are seeking a Research Scientist to focus on the design and modeling of innovative superconducting quantum devices. This includes the development of qubits, readout and control systems, as well as sophisticated quantum processors. Candidates with a proven history of significant scientific contributions or software development experience will be prioritized. Strong engineering principles, creativity, and excellent organizational and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

About Our Team
The AWS Utility Computing (UC) team is responsible for delivering product innovations ranging from foundational services like Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to cutting-edge product advancements that distinguish AWS in the marketplace.

As a member of the UC organization, you will contribute to the development and management of various services within AWS, including Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Applications. This role also involves supporting customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Basic Qualifications
- PhD in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of quantum mechanics, with expertise in at least one of the following areas: quantum technologies (sensing, communications, computing, etc.), superconducting qubits, hybrid quantum acoustic devices, cavity/circuit QED, quantum optics, open quantum systems, or superconductivity.
- Proficiency in a scientific programming environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with microwave and/or multiphysics modeling software (e.g., COMSOL, Sonnet, Microwave Office, ANSYS, Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR, Palace, etc.).
- Familiarity with device layout scripting and automation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting with engineers, scientists, and technicians of varying technical expertise.

Compensation
Our compensation reflects the labor market across various US geographic regions. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by multiple factors, including market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company, and depending on the position, equity, sign-on bonuses, and other forms of compensation may be included in the total compensation package, along with a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
