Job Title: Aquatic Safety Officer at YMCA of Middle Tennessee

Job Overview:

Position Overview:

In alignment with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, the Aquatic Safety Officer will collaborate with fellow team members under the supervision of the Aquatics Director. This role is crucial in maintaining aquatic safety protocols to create a secure and enjoyable environment for all participants.

  • Ensure a safe environment tailored to the needs of participants
  • Punctually arrive in appropriate attire at designated positions
  • Assess potential hazards upon arrival
  • Guarantee the safety of all members and patrons
  • Stay current with American Red Cross lifeguard certification
  • Comply with YMCA of Middle Tennessee Aquatic Safety Standards
  • Enforce facility regulations with professionalism and assertiveness
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of swimming areas
  • Secure premises by locking doors and access points when off-duty
  • Build relationships and engage positively with members
  • Participate in mandatory staff meetings and training sessions

Qualifications:

A strong commitment to the YMCA's mission and values

A positive attitude focused on serving members, volunteers, guests, and staff to foster a culture of service

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse community groups

  • Maintain a professional demeanor with strong conflict resolution skills, good judgment, and initiative
  • Understand and follow YMCA safety protocols
  • Availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum age requirement of 16 years; prior lifeguarding experience is not necessary
  • Demonstrate swimming proficiency

Required Certifications:

(All necessary training will be provided by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee)

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation training before the first shift
  • Successful completion of American Red Cross Lifeguard training and maintenance of certification before the first shift

American Red Cross certified lifeguards must adhere to the following standards to maintain their certification:

  • Monitor and enforce safety in assigned areas at all times
  • Maintain technical rescue skills as outlined in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program
  • Stay updated on CPR techniques, including adult, child, infant, two-person CPR, AED, and oxygen administration

While on duty, the employee may be required to stand, sit, walk on various surfaces, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl; communicate effectively, and may need to lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to varying weather conditions and moderate noise levels may also occur.
