Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Academic Data Strategist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, leading, and assessing strategies to help faculty and staff gain confidence in their ability to ask critical questions and answer those questions with evidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with academic leadership to formulate data and reporting needs and scope, and explore ways to capture the necessary information.
  • Understand all phases of the analytic process including data collection, preparation, modeling, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Explore and examine data from multiple disparate sources to identify, report on, and analyze trends in the data as well as regular reporting for assigned departments.
  • Establish links across existing data sources and find new, interesting data correlations.
  • Develop statistical, mathematical, and predictive models using strategic business understanding to ask the right questions and find the right answers.
  • Stay apprised of all assigned initiatives, providing reporting and analytics that will allow the group to make informed, data-driven decisions to meet business objectives.
  • Visualize and report data findings creatively in a variety of visual formats that appropriately provides insights to stakeholders.
  • Understand all phases of the analytic process including data collection, preparation, modeling, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Analyze and interpret the results of experiments to create cost-effective and process-efficient alternatives, enhancements, or modifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Competency in working on most phases of data analysis; familiarity with database concepts, statistical concepts, and data visualization using low-code technologies like PowerBI or Tableau; proficiency in Excel-based data manipulation.
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$60,000 - $70,000 / annual
