Your Role:

We are seeking a Senior Microgrid and Energy Storage Applications Engineer to provide extensive engineering support for our distributed energy and microgrid initiatives. This role involves managing a diverse array of distributed energy resources (DER) and microgrid components, including solar energy systems, energy storage solutions, control systems, and reciprocating engines.

This position will work closely with our Principal Microgrid Engineer and is designed to foster collaboration and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with switchgear manufacturers and other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to create scalable and innovative designs and cost estimates.
  • Contribute significantly to the design of solar, battery, and generator systems to enhance performance, reliability, and sustainability.
  • Lead the entire lifecycle of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and DER project design, from initial concepts to comprehensive system designs.
  • Engage with technology vendors and equipment suppliers to ensure optimal integration of systems.
  • Utilize strong technical and communication skills to liaise with various business units and clients.
  • Work with business development teams to assess and develop appropriate technical solutions for specific projects.
  • Oversee engineering consultants in the creation of detailed engineering drawings and specifications.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems and a minimum of four years of experience in the design and construction of power generation and renewable energy projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., NEC, UL, ISO).
  • Experience in developing system-level schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation for BESS installations.
  • Ability to conduct factory acceptance tests and on-site commissioning of BESS systems to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
  • Thorough understanding of distributed energy technologies, including solar, battery, and reciprocating engines.
  • Project management experience with a proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with emissions from utility sources and DERs, as well as systems controls for BESS and DERs.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating conceptual diagrams and site layouts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in power or progress towards obtaining it.
  • Five or more years of experience in renewable electrical/design engineering.
  • Experience with distributed generation or utility-scale BESS system design.
  • Advanced coursework in power systems or a higher-level degree in the field.
