Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced EH&S Manager to join our team at Nature's Bakery. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing Health, Safety, and Environmental activities as part of our broader Health and Wellness Division's EH&S program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement EH&S Strategy: Develop and implement the site EH&S strategy to enhance the Safety & Health Management System to meet and exceed the requirements of ISO 45001, internal and external audit requirements, and all applicable local and national occupational health and safety regulatory requirements, as well as Mars Global Safety & Health Standards.
  • Environmental Management System and Sustainability Programs: Develop and implement the facility's Environmental Management System and Sustainability Programs to meet and exceed all local regulatory requirements, ISO 14001 requirements, and Mars Global Environmental Standards.
  • EH&S Targets and Deliverables: Together with multiple stakeholders, set EH&S targets and deliver against them.
  • EH&S Standards Deployment: Deploy all company EH&S Standards as they specifically apply to the site.
  • Environmental Compliance Programs: Execute on all site environmental compliance programs, including air, storm water, water, spill control, and wastewater. Ensure all testing required by company standards are met on time.
  • Hazardous Waste Management: Execute proper management of the sites hazardous waste management activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations and standards.
  • EH&S Programs and Plans: Develop and deploy the site specific EH&S programs and plans to position the site as a best-in-class organization.
  • Training and Coaching: Deliver training and coaching to establish clear understanding / engagement by all site associates on HSE expectations.
  • Incident Investigation: Ensure investigation of all EH&S related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drive completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence are effectively implemented, this includes execution of corrective actions developed from other site incidents.
  • HSE Technical Expertise: Serve as an HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise / coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function to include capital project review and risks management associated with non-capital modifications.
  • Emergency Response Team: Ensure the site emergency response team (ERT) has the tools, skills, and knowledge to effectively respond to site HSE emergencies.
  • Industrial Hygiene Risk Management: Lead site efforts to measure and improve Industrial Hygiene Risk. This includes but is not limited to: ergonomics, dust, noise, and chemical exposure. Coordinate all necessary IH and audiometric monitoring.
  • Contractor Safety Program: Own the overall site Contractor Safety program to reduce risk associated with construction and trade contactor activity. Ensure project managers are accountable for proper management of contractors.
  • Security Requirements: Own site security requirements in order to meet corporate standards and with the oversight of security operations on the site. This includes management of contract security providers.
  • Risk Management: Manage Risk Management activities associated with asset conservation and property loss control. Drive timely corrective actions to third party loss risk assessments and audits.
  • Third Party Risk Control: Work with third party risk control experts to ensure compliance with company standards on new projects. Support audit efforts to maintain and improve favorable insurance ratings.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Have the ability and willingness to flex work hours to support the site needs, including night and weekend hours.
  • Worker's Compensation Claims: Together with HR, manage worker's compensation claims and incident follow through.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in science (ex. engineering, safety, IH, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience: 5-10 years' experience managing safety and environmental programs or projects in a manufacturing environment or school related program.
  • Skills: Ability to maintain alignment across functions, ability to solve complex problems, excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships with stakeholders, ability to interact with site level manufacturing / business management, and regulatory agencies is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Strong written and verbal communication skills including a high level of comfort developing and delivering training and motivational presentations to all levels of associates is a must. Basic knowledge of food manufacturing and GMP is preferred. Demonstrated leadership in driving a program / system of safety or environmental in a manufacturing environment. Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis is preferred. Experience in management of Security function is preferred.
  • Equivalent Experience: Experience in any of the follow jobs should align with our needs: Safety Manager, HSE Manager (Health Safety and Environment Manager)/ HS&E Manager, Health and Safety Manager, Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager, Risk Manager, Environmental Manager, Safety Director, HSE Supervisor.
