Position Overview
This role involves working autonomously and collaboratively with various internal departments to oversee the capital projects forecast and the long-term financial strategy of Kern River Gas Transmission.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the collection, integration, analysis, and presentation of financial data related to the company's growth and operational capital expenditures for financial reporting and strategic planning.
- Deliver insightful variance analysis comparing actual performance against forecasts and historical data to pinpoint issues, providing actionable insights and recommendations to leadership.
- Maintain the proprietary budgeting and forecasting system, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the underlying processes and cost responsibilities.
- Conduct special projects and analyses as necessary, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Serve as a liaison with the accounting department to ensure seamless integration of processes for precise financial reporting and planning.
- Assist in training team members to ensure adequate support and coverage within the department.
- Identify inconsistencies with current accounting practices and support additional financial analyses within the team.
- Offer technical input for project planning and provide leadership to finance and accounting personnel.
- Undertake any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
- Typically requires six years of progressive experience in financial accounting, financial planning, or related fields for candidates without a bachelor's degree.
- A minimum of six years' experience in financial analysis, public accounting, or related disciplines.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of management and team members.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, along with expert proficiency in spreadsheet applications and a thorough understanding of financial statements for effective modeling and analysis.
- Strong skills in word processing, email, and presentation software, with the ability to utilize proprietary and database software effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with a solid understanding of financial analysis methodologies and tools.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines and perform well under pressure. Extended hours may be necessary during critical periods.
- Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is preferred. Knowledge of Regulatory Accounting Principles is also advantageous.

BHE Pipeline Group encompasses Berkshire Hathaway Energy's interstate natural gas pipeline companies, including BHE GT&S, Kern River Gas Transmission Company, and Northern Natural Gas Company. Together, they operate approximately 21,200 miles of pipeline with a design capacity of around 21.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, owning assets across 27 states and transporting a significant portion of the natural gas consumed in the U.S. Additionally, BHE Pipeline Group manages 22 natural gas storage facilities with a total working gas capacity of 515.6 billion cubic feet, along with a liquefied natural gas export, import, and storage facility.
