Position Title: Teaching Associate for the Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education

Overview:
The Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education is seeking graduate students to apply for the role of Teaching Associate. This position primarily involves delivering instructional support in a classroom setting. Eligibility for this role is contingent upon successful completion of TA requirements, departmental criteria, and available funding.
The department maintains the discretion to select the most suitable candidate for each role and may assign Teaching Associates to courses that align with the department's educational framework and curriculum for any given term. Due to variations in staffing and curriculum, the courses available may differ, and there is no assurance of continued employment from one term to the next.
Anticipated Appointment Timeline: This position remains open until filled. Applicants will be notified if no other positions are available.
Weekly Hours/Units: Students may work up to 20 hours weekly;
1 unit equates to 2.66 hours weekly (40 hours x 1 unit/15 units) Typical lab assignments range from 1.3 to 5.2 units (dependent on courses and number of sections assigned) Typical lecture assignments range from 3 to 6 units (dependent on courses and number of sections assigned) Maximum of 6 units allowedResponsibilities: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following, depending on the specific course assignment and faculty requirements:
Conducting and overseeing classroom activities. Holding office hours for student consultations. Providing instruction in classrooms and/or laboratories. Assigning tasks to students. Preparing educational materials. Administering assessments. Evaluating student performance and determining grades. Offering assistance to students outside of scheduled class or lab times. Participating in faculty meetings for course coordination and content discussion. Engaging in distance learning initiatives. Completing additional assignments that support university teaching efforts.Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Teaching Associate position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Admission to the Master's Program in the Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education, maintaining good academic standing. Enrollment in a minimum of 6 units for the semester or in two courses towards the degree. Proficiency and willingness to utilize computers, including common word-processing software and Internet-based educational technology. Demonstrated satisfactory progress towards the degree. Ability to effectively interact with others in an academic setting and the potential to learn instructional and evaluative techniques. Commitment to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.Preferred Qualifications:
Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Expertise in a related natural science discipline. Evidence of or interest in publishing in academic journals.Application Process: The review of applications will commence in the Spring for a Fall start date.
