Position Overview:

The Civil and Geomatics Department is seeking dedicated graduate students for the role of Teaching Associates (TAs). TAs are essential in delivering educational instruction, with eligibility determined by departmental standards and available resources.

Our department is committed to selecting the most qualified individuals for each role, assigning TAs to appropriate courses based on the curriculum and program requirements for each term. Please be aware that course availability may fluctuate due to staffing and curriculum adjustments, and employment continuity cannot be assured from one term to the next.

Expected Appointment Period: Positions remain open until filled. Candidates will be informed if no positions are available following their application.

Work Hours: TAs may work up to 20 hours weekly. The workload is calculated based on units:

  • 1 unit equates to 2.66 hours per week
  • Laboratory sessions typically range from 1.3 to 5.2 units
  • Lecture sessions generally range from 3 to 6 units
  • TAs should not exceed 6 units

Key Responsibilities: The responsibilities of TAs may vary by course but typically include:

  • Leading and managing classroom activities
  • Designing course materials and implementing assignments
  • Preparing educational resources and activities
  • Assessing student work and performance
  • Providing support to students during designated hours
  • Engaging in evaluation processes
  • Maintaining office hours and reviewing student submissions

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must fulfill the following requirements to qualify for a TA position:

  • Admission to the Civil Program with good academic standing
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 6 units or two courses
  • Demonstrated satisfactory progress towards their degree
  • Strong communication and teaching abilities
  • Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity

Application Procedure: Applications will be evaluated starting in Spring 2024 for the upcoming Fall term. To ensure consideration, all required documents should be submitted by the specified deadline, with ongoing evaluations until all positions are filled. Required documentation includes consolidated transcripts from all educational levels.
