Position Title: Teaching Associate for the Department of Construction Management

Institution: Lyles College of Engineering

Overview of the Role:

The Department of Construction Management is inviting applications for the role of Teaching Associate. This position is primarily aimed at graduate students who will take on the responsibility of delivering educational instruction in various courses. Eligibility for this role is contingent upon meeting the department's criteria for Teaching Assistants, along with sufficient funding availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate instruction for courses including, but not limited to, CM/Arch 17, CM/Arch 18, CM/Arch 19L, Arch 31, and Arch 32.
  • Participate in the selection process for Teaching Associates, ensuring the most qualified candidates are chosen for each course assignment.
  • Adapt to changes in course offerings and departmental needs, as employment is not guaranteed from one semester to the next.

Anticipated Appointment Timeline:

This position will remain open until filled. Candidates will be notified regarding their application status.

Work Hours:

Teaching Associates may work up to 20 hours per week, with specific unit assignments based on course requirements:

  • 1 unit corresponds to approximately 2.66 hours of work per week.
  • Lab courses typically range from 1.3 to 5.2 units.
  • Lecture courses generally range from 3 to 6 units.
  • A maximum of 6 units is permitted for this role.

Key Duties:

  • Attend orientation sessions at the start of the semester.
  • Lead classroom instruction and manage student engagement.
  • Develop and prepare educational materials and activities.
  • Design course structure and sequence of assignments.
  • Provide feedback on student writing and performance.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student support.
  • Engage in program assessment activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in the Master's Program in Construction Management, maintaining good academic standing.
  • Completion of at least 6 units for the semester or enrollment in two courses towards the degree.
  • Proven progress towards degree completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively instruct and evaluate students.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the academic environment.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in the subject matter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Relevant professional experience in the field.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant.
