The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) specializing in Psychiatric or Mental/Behavioral Health is accountable for implementing the nursing process and delivering patient care within the psychiatric unit of a healthcare facility or mental health institution. This role may also extend to community-based settings.


The LPN is expected to demonstrate clinical judgment effectively and efficiently under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in collaboration with the healthcare team.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee all aspects related to medication administration, including ordering, blood draws, nursing assessments, and patient care, in accordance with state regulations.

2. Manage medication orders, transcribe to the Medication Administration Record (MAR), administer medications, and maintain accurate inventory of stock medications and narcotics, ensuring the Medication Room meets agency standards.

3. Conduct vital sign assessments, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and weight, as well as blood draws, adhering to program guidelines and completing necessary documentation.

4. Collect urine samples as required, ensuring compliance with nursing standards and completing all related paperwork.

5. Ensure the integrity of clinical records through timely and accurate completion of all required documentation.

6. Perform additional duties as assigned or necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Valid LPN license in the state of practice.

2. Minimum of 1 year experience in a psychiatric care environment is required.

3. Adherence to all relevant professional standards of practice.

4. Completion of Amergis' Competency program, if applicable.

5. Current CPR certification, if applicable.

6. TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray, if applicable.

7. Valid Health certificate as per contract or state regulations.

8. Compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements.

9. Successful completion of new hire training relevant to the job site.

10. Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.

11. Strong communication skills to effectively exchange information with supervisors, colleagues, and clients; proficiency in English is mandatory.

12. Computer literacy is required.

13. Must be at least 18 years of age.
