About the Role

The Business Development Director will be responsible for defining, planning, and implementing business development strategies and activities, including new customer relationship development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Business Strategies: Develop business plans and sales strategies for each market segment to ensure attainment of Company goals for growth and profitability.
  • New Customer Development: Responsible for new customer business development within defined markets and market segments.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Participate in M&A activity aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Marketing Planning: Develop and implement marketing plans as needed.
  • Sales Support: Work with and assist the sales team by defining appropriate systems for identifying and qualifying marketing leads, and for managing an effective hand-off of qualified leads from strategic business development to sales and business unit teams.
  • Proposal Development: Assist business unit/design teams by producing document templates for quotes and proposals, and providing training to the teams on how to use them.
  • Performance Analysis: Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of sales methods, costs, and results.
  • Critical Account Management: Directly manage and coordinate activities related to critically developing strategic customer accounts.
  • Pricing and Profitability: Assist business unit/design teams to provide timely, accurate and competitive pricing on all completed quotes and proposals, while striving to maintain maximum profit margin.
  • Proposal Presentations: Create and deliver proposal presentations and RFP responses as required.
  • Business Development Leadership: Directly lead critical portions of business development proposals and presentations, and assist business unit/design teams in preparation of proposals and presentations as needed.
  • Activity Standards: Ensure that business unit/design teams and/or sales associates meet or exceed all activity standards for prospecting calls, appointments, presentations, proposals and quotes.
  • Delegation and Accountability: Delegate authority and responsibility with accountability and follow-up.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Maintain contact with all new customers within each market segment to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Strategic Planning: Regularly establish marketing and business development strategies and successful execution of those strategies.
Requirements
  • 8+ years program management experience.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Effectively mentor employees at all levels, including business unit teams.
  • Understand and use continuous improvement tools.
  • Drive solutions to complex planning issues with limited supervision.
  • Effective analytical, strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Proven negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and the ability to motivate diverse project teams with minimal direction within tight timeframes during multi-project initiatives.
  • Solid financial understanding, risk analysis ability, relationship-building, and project management.
  • Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills (writing, speaking, listening, presenting), as well as interpersonal skills.
Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
