Position Summary

This position is essential for nurses with over 12 months of experience. The role involves delivering and coordinating comprehensive care to patients within a specialized clinical area, functioning as an integral member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse will utilize the institution's care delivery models as a framework for professional practice, actively engaging in personal and group practice development. Accountability is maintained to patients, families, and team members for the care provided, as well as to the nurse manager for overall performance.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities outline the primary functions of this role:

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in caring for the specific patient population; practice independently with a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills.
  2. Act as a clinical resource for colleagues.
  3. Integrate evidence-based practices into daily care.
  4. Effectively fulfill roles specific to the unit, such as emergency response or triage.
  5. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate patient care, advocating for patient and family needs.
  6. Model practices that align with unit operations to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Professional Development:

  1. Engage in ongoing professional development and practice advancement.
  2. Maintain competencies relevant to the patient care setting.
  3. Participate in unit-based staff development initiatives.
  4. Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new nurses and students.
  5. Contribute to the development and evaluation of orientation and educational programs.
  6. Support the skill development of nursing support personnel.
  7. Complete continuing education requirements annually.

Quality and Safety:

  1. Understand and contribute to unit-based outcomes related to quality measures.
  2. Participate in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives.
  3. Deliver high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care, focusing on exceeding service expectations.
  4. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hold others accountable.
  5. Participate in patient safety initiatives and report any risks or adverse events.

Operational Duties:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to assume charge nurse responsibilities.
  2. Engage in team-building activities within the unit.
  3. Contribute to staff meetings and briefings.
  4. Participate in governance structures at the unit and organizational levels.
  5. Support recruitment and retention efforts within the unit.
  6. Provide constructive feedback during peer reviews as requested.

Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Maryland or eligibility through Compact state agreements.
  • Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with a solid foundation of clinical skills.
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required.
  • Must meet all unit-specific certification requirements.
