Position Overview

The Assistant Principal plays a pivotal role in supporting the Principal in the administration of the school.

This position is primarily focused on overseeing key operational areas within the institution to guarantee the effective design, delivery, and assessment of the educational curriculum. The Assistant Principal will have the authority to make critical decisions regarding program development, budget allocation, and staffing related to their designated responsibilities, all while adhering to the school's strategic framework, policies, and financial guidelines.

In this capacity, the Assistant Principal will analyze student needs and align state educational policies with tailored educational programs to cater to the diverse requirements of all learners.

Typically, the Assistant Principal will manage the utilization of teaching staff and budgetary resources within a specific operational domain, ensuring effective leadership and oversight of the educational initiatives supported by these resources.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Principal will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the consistent application of school policies and procedures within a designated year level.
  • Leading and coordinating activities within the year level area.
  • Implementing and overseeing:
    • Curriculum, teaching methodologies, and assessment strategies.
    • School-wide positive behavior initiatives.
    • Behavior management processes in both classroom and outdoor settings.
  • Managing:
    • Applications for students with disabilities.
    • Referrals to the Student Welfare and Learning Team.
    • Connections with Student Support Services.
    • Coordination of school excursions, incursions, and camps.
    • Mandatory reporting protocols.
    • Monitoring and promoting student attendance.
  • Providing coaching and leadership development for Professional Learning Team Leaders.
  • Implementing feedback mechanisms aligned with the school's feedback initiatives.
  • Supporting teams in term and weekly planning and assessment practices.
  • Leading the analysis of academic, welfare, and engagement data with teams.
  • Conducting enrollment discussions with prospective families.
  • Offering guidance on behavior management strategies beyond the classroom.
  • Serving as the primary contact for parents and guardians within the year level area.
  • Overseeing the implementation of school policies related to student wellbeing and engagement.
  • Promoting a holistic approach to:
    • Aligning engagement processes with curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment.
    • Establishing support frameworks for engagement and behavior management.
    • School-wide positive behavior programs.
    • Programs for students with disabilities.
    • Extra-curricular strategies.
    • Engagement Coaches.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
