Description of Work

This position within the Department of Transportation offers competitive salaries and numerous opportunities for professional growth. The Project Management Unit is engaged in managing a diverse range of transportation projects, focusing on scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk management.

The Project Management Unit is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to oversee daily operations and lead a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of centrally overseen projects with varying complexity during the pre-construction phase to ensure adherence to project timelines and objectives.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager in executing daily tasks on complex projects.
  • Monitor and report on assigned tasks to the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager.
  • Develop project schedules and plans to implement necessary work for project delivery, ensuring compliance with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintain project milestones, track changes and decisions, identify risks and mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and anomalies, providing insights to the Senior Project Manager.
  • Support oversight of private engineering firms, including contract administration and consultant selection.
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders and team members as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applicants must demonstrate the following qualifications:
  • Experience in managing project teams to deliver transportation projects and maintaining project schedules.
  • Understanding of civil engineering principles and practices related to highway design, project planning, and construction methods.
  • Familiarity with Professional Engineering contracts, including scoping, estimating, and negotiation.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, develop work schedules, and monitor progress effectively.
  • Skill in communicating complex engineering concepts clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an accredited institution and have three (3) years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Registration as a professional engineer may be required.
