Position Summary

The Aerospace Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) is a multifaceted scientific entity that offers a wide-ranging and inventive research and development framework for an expanding space sector. PSL's influence is amplified through a diverse research portfolio that merges foundational scientific inquiry with state-of-the-art technology advancement to cater to a broad clientele. The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD), a division of PSL, operates specialized laboratories dedicated to testing, accelerating, and analyzing failures in electronics utilized for space systems. MTD consists of two sections: one focuses on radiation effects testing and discrete microelectronics testing, while the other conducts failure analysis on microelectronics, employing tools that can detect anomalies from the macroscopic to the atomic level. As an Electrical Testing Research Associate (Research Associate III-Electrical Systems), your responsibilities will include designing automated electrical test configurations, creating test circuits on printed circuit boards, assembling cabling, and developing software to automate multiple instruments during testing.

Work Model

This is a full-time position requiring onsite presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design printed circuit boards to facilitate rapid test setups.
  • Assist in the fabrication of materials, devices, test structures, and prototypes using tools such as wire bonding, die bonding, printed circuit board design, and soldering.
  • Conduct sample inspections utilizing optical microscopes.
  • Remove semiconductor packaging through various mechanical, chemical, and thermal methods.
  • Perform electrical measurements on microelectronics samples, which may be part of complex circuits, individual packages, or bare dies.
  • Ensure equipment functionality by maintaining calibration and servicing as required.
  • Quickly troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Exhibit strong organizational capabilities.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • General understanding of semiconductor devices and circuits.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JAVA, C/C++, or similar.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required for this process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, material science, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience with an Associate's degree or 3 years with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in designing complex, high-speed circuit boards and coordinating fabrication.
  • Proficiency with benchtop lab equipment such as semiconductor parameter analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, DC power supplies, switch matrices, multimeters, etc.
  • Experience in automating lab instruments using Python, LabVIEW, or other programming languages.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to evolving organizational needs.
