Position Summary
The Aerospace Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) is a multifaceted scientific entity that provides a robust and inventive research and development framework for an expanding space sector. PSL's influence is amplified through a diverse research portfolio that merges foundational scientific inquiry with state-of-the-art technology advancement to cater to a wide array of clients. Our unique capability to collaborate with all stakeholders—government, industry, and academia—enables us to devise novel solutions to the most pressing challenges in contemporary and future technology applications.
The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD), a segment of PSL, houses specialized laboratories dedicated to testing, accelerating, and analyzing failures in electronics utilized for space systems. MTD comprises two divisions: one focusing on radiation effects testing and discrete microelectronics testing, while the other conducts failure analysis on microelectronics employing tools that can detect anomalies from the macroscopic to the atomic level.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop printed circuit boards to facilitate rapid test setups.
- Assist in the fabrication of materials, devices, test structures, and prototypes utilizing tools such as wire bonding, die bonding, printed circuit board design, and soldering.
- Conduct sample inspections using optical microscopes.
- Utilize various mechanical, chemical, and thermal techniques to remove semiconductor packaging.
- Execute electrical measurements on microelectronics samples, which may be part of a complex circuit, individual package, or bare die.
- Ensure equipment functionality by maintaining calibration and servicing as necessary.
- Demonstrate the ability to swiftly troubleshoot issues.
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Exhibit strong organizational capabilities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- General understanding of semiconductor devices and circuits.
- Experience in a laboratory setting while adhering to safety protocols.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JAVA, C/C++, or similar.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required for this clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, material science, or a related field.
- 6+ years of relevant experience with an Associate's degree or 3 years with a Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in designing complex, high-speed circuit boards and managing fabrication processes.
- Proficiency with benchtop lab equipment such as semiconductor parameter analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, DC power supplies, switch matrices, multimeters, etc.
- Experience in automating lab instruments using Python, LabVIEW, or other programming languages.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated adaptability to evolving organizational needs.
