The Aerospace Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) is a multifaceted scientific entity that provides a robust and innovative research and development framework for an expanding space sector. PSL's influence is amplified through a diverse research portfolio that merges foundational scientific inquiry with advanced technology development, catering to a wide range of clients. PSL's unique capability to collaborate with all stakeholders—government, industry, and academia—enables us to devise novel solutions to the most pressing challenges in contemporary and future technology applications. The strength of PSL is derived from a combination of state-of-the-art tools and facilities, a comprehensive repository of space-system knowledge, and the extensive technical expertise of our personnel. We leverage these resources across over 150 specialized laboratories to address emerging challenges within the space domain.

The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD), a division of PSL, features specialized laboratories dedicated to testing, accelerating, and analyzing failures in electronics utilized for space systems. MTD consists of two sections: one focused on radiation effects testing and discrete microelectronics evaluation, while the other conducts failure analysis on microelectronics, employing tools capable of identifying anomalies from macroscopic to atomic scales.

The Semiconductor Test Research Associate will assist principal investigators and staff scientists in executing electrical measurements of CMOS, III-V, and novel material technologies. Responsibilities will include utilizing probe stations for measurements on bare die and constructing test setups to assess packaged components.

Work Model

This is a full-time position requiring 100% onsite work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting electrical measurements on bare die using automated and manual probe stations, or on packaged components using test fixtures.
  • Assembling test setups based on specifications provided by the principal investigator.
  • Programming laboratory instruments utilizing LabView or Python.
  • Collecting and analyzing measurement data.
  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate measurement outcomes.
  • Ensuring equipment functionality through regular calibration and maintenance.
  • Demonstrating the ability to troubleshoot issues promptly.
  • Collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Exhibiting strong organizational skills.

Qualifications for Success - Semiconductor Test Research Associate II

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, material science, physics, or a related field (pursuing or conferred within the last 12 months).
  • 0-1 year of relevant industry experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of semiconductor devices and circuits.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JAVA, C/C++, or similar.
  • This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.
  • Transcripts are required.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience in the space sector, including internships.
  • Familiarity with benchtop lab equipment such as semiconductor parameter analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, DC power supplies, switch matrices, multimeters, etc.
  • Experience in automating laboratory instruments using Python, LabVIEW, or other programming languages.
  • Knowledge of testing III-V technologies, such as GaN HEMT.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.

We offer a competitive compensation package where you will be recognized based on your performance and the value you contribute to our organization. The grade-based pay range for this position is provided below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through various factors, including education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
