Position Summary

The Aerospace Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) is a multifaceted scientific entity that offers a wide-ranging and innovative research and development framework for an expanding space sector. Our unique capability to collaborate with all stakeholders—government, industry, and academia—enables us to devise novel solutions for the most pressing challenges in current and future technological applications.

The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD), a division of PSL, operates specialized laboratories dedicated to testing, accelerating, and analyzing failures in electronics utilized in space systems. MTD consists of two sections: one focusing on radiation effects testing and discrete microelectronics testing, while the other conducts failure analysis on microelectronics, employing tools that identify anomalies from macroscopic to atomic scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop printed circuit boards to facilitate rapid test setups.
  • Assist in the fabrication of materials, devices, test structures, and prototypes utilizing tools such as wire bonding, die bonding, printed circuit board design, and soldering.
  • Conduct sample inspections using optical microscopes.
  • Employ various mechanical, chemical, and thermal techniques to remove semiconductor packaging.
  • Perform electrical measurements on microelectronics samples, which may include complex circuits, individual packages, or bare dies.
  • Ensure equipment functionality by maintaining calibration and servicing as necessary.
  • Demonstrate quick troubleshooting abilities.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • General understanding of semiconductor devices and circuits.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JAVA, C/C++, or similar.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, material science, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience with an Associate's degree or 3 years with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in designing complex, high-speed circuit boards and managing fabrication processes.
  • Proficiency with benchtop lab equipment, including semiconductor parameter analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, DC power supplies, switch matrices, and multimeters.
  • Experience in automating lab instruments using Python, LabVIEW, or other programming languages.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to changing organizational needs.
