Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist who will deliver expert management of sponsored funding for the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), collaborating closely with faculty and administrative leaders.

This role will primarily focus on pre-award and post-award responsibilities, dedicating approximately 90% of time to tasks such as proposal development, submission, budget formulation, account oversight, invoicing, compliance, and project closeout.

The Specialist will independently manage a diverse portfolio of grants and contracts, ranging from straightforward to highly intricate.

While there may be involvement with non-sponsored funds, the main objective is to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of sponsored funding processes.

Job Responsibilities

This position will report directly to the Financial Manager and will include:

  • Providing comprehensive administrative guidance on budgets, protocols, regulations, and compliance to Principal Investigators (PIs) and other research professionals.
  • Leading all sponsored pre-award activities and supporting post-award functions for the Institute's grants and contracts.
  • Collaborating with ICTR faculty and the Office of Research Administration to plan and develop grant applications for various funding sources.
  • Managing the submission process for grant applications to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reviewing proposals for compliance with institutional policies and sponsor guidelines.
  • Assisting PIs with the preparation and submission of proposals, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Preparing budgets based on PI information and sponsor requirements, ensuring all costs are accounted for.
  • Ensuring compliance with IRB and ACUC protocols and training requirements.
  • Assisting with post-award management, including budget distribution, account reconciliation, and invoice processing.
  • Maintaining communication with PIs regarding the financial status of grants and contracts.
  • Facilitating contract and grant closeouts as necessary.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree is required, along with a minimum of four years of relevant experience in sponsored research or financial roles, preferably within an academic or medical environment.

Knowledge of accounting principles and federal guidelines for grants and contracts is essential.
