Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert-level support for the pre- and post-award processes of sponsored research projects, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and external regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Award:
    • Provide guidance and support to principal investigators and research staff on grant application procedures, including budget preparation and justification.
    • Manage grant submissions to ensure timely and accurate processing.
    • Review and approve grant proposals for accuracy and completeness.
    • Partner with faculty and research staff to develop and implement effective grant strategies.
    • Provide excellent customer service to faculty and research staff.
  • Post-Award:
    • Manage post-award processes, including award setup, review, and account setup verification.
    • Assist in the transfer of awards for incoming projects to the institution.
    • Maintain ongoing updates and communications related to current grants and contracts, including regular auditing and reporting to principal investigators on financial status.
    • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and external regulations.
    • Provide information and direct assistance required to complete contract and grant closeouts.
    • Serve as liaison between research units, central offices, and funding agencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Four years of related experience in sponsored research and/or financial positions, preferably in an academic or medical setting.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Successful completion of the Research Administration Training Program (15 months) is equivalent to two years of relevant experience for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting theory and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of The Johns Hopkins University accounting system and related fiscal offices.
  • Ability to make independent judgments and to act on decisions on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of external Federal guidelines/procedures for grants and contracts, including NIH, NSF, and DOD.
  • CRA certification preferred.
Working Conditions

This is a remote position with a 37.5-hour workweek. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to achieve the goals and objectives of the position.
