About Us

The Department of Physical Therapy is a vital part of our College of Health Professions, which encompasses multiple interdisciplinary units. Our department has a long-standing tradition of excellence, being accredited since 1931 and consistently ranked among the top physical therapy programs in the nation.

Position Overview

We invite qualified candidates to apply for an open rank faculty position within the Department of Physical Therapy. The primary focus of this role will be to educate students in various physical therapy practice patterns, including cardiovascular, pulmonary, integumentary, musculoskeletal, and neuromuscular systems. Additionally, the role includes expectations for scholarship and service. Compensation and rank will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching
Deliver courses related to physical therapy practice patterns and contribute to the educational needs of the department. Engage in initiatives that promote student success and provide academic advising. Exhibit advanced skills and judgment while collaborating with colleagues on course design and development. Offer timely and constructive feedback to students. Service
Participate in departmental, college, and university committees. Provide professional and community service in areas of expertise. Research
Engage in scholarly activities that enhance the field of Physical Therapy and contribute to departmental success.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program. Eligibility for licensure to practice physical therapy in Virginia. Capability to teach physical therapy courses aligned with clinical practice and departmental needs. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of two years of teaching experience in an entry-level Physical Therapy program. APTA Board Certification as a Clinical Specialist. Academic doctorate in a relevant field or post-professional master's degree. Experience in mentoring students from underrepresented communities. Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
