Richmond, Virginia, United States Virginia Commonwealth University Full time

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts), Department of Art Education is creating a talent pool for potential University Supervisor adjunct faculty roles.

The University Supervisor acts as the essential link between the Department of Art Education and the K-12 educational institutions where teacher candidates are placed for their student-teaching experiences. It is the responsibility of the University Supervisor to mentor and oversee teacher candidates during their practical clinical training in a suitable academic setting, providing a comprehensive written assessment of the student teachers, visiting their assigned school locations, and collaborating with the cooperating educators.

The primary role of the University Supervisor is to offer guidance to teacher candidates in their journey towards developing teaching proficiency and to support the cooperating educators.

This applicant pool may be utilized to fill temporary positions as required, to provide specialized teaching expertise when necessary, and/or to address specific programmatic needs that are not otherwise met within the program.

The applicant pool will remain active for consideration until June 2025. Applications will be reviewed only when an adjunct opportunity arises.

Required Qualifications
- (1) A Master's degree in Art Education or (2) a comparable combination of education, professional experience, and training, which includes a minimum of 5 years of recent experience in K-12 Art, along with a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional License/Certificate and an appropriate degree in Art Education or a closely related discipline.

  • Possession of a valid Virginia teaching certificate
  • Understanding and knowledge of contemporary teaching methodologies
  • Experience in observing and assessing teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to engage with the public in a friendly, cooperative, and collaborative manner
  • Willingness to travel to various school environments within the designated area
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

University Supervisors should possess academic qualifications and experience in the field of education and have successfully taught at the levels they oversee. We are particularly interested in supervisors with prior teaching experience in K-12 Art.

Application materials should include the following:

  • Current CV
  • List of three current references including names, contact information (references will not be contacted without the applicant's consent).
  • Diversity Statement - Virginia Commonwealth University is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, creating an environment where all individuals can thrive in their pursuit of excellence.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a Statement of Contributions to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (typically between 300-500 words) outlining their career aspirations and contributions toward advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This statement should reflect how personal experiences, along with past, present, and future academic and professional endeavors, have contributed or will contribute to VCU's mission of promoting equity and inclusion.

Note:

Examples may include collaborative efforts to further equity and inclusion goals; leadership roles that tangibly foster an environment where diversity is embraced; creative activities, research, and scholarship that advocate for equity; teaching and mentoring students; and engaging with faculty and staff from traditionally underrepresented groups to cultivate a positive organizational experience.
