The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry is dedicated to providing exceptional education in dentistry and oral health. With a legacy spanning over 130 years, it stands as Virginia's sole dental institution, offering a comprehensive doctor of dental surgery (D.D.S) program, specialized graduate training, and a dental hygiene curriculum. As one of the few dental schools associated with an academic medical center, it is also the second oldest dental school in the United States.

Primary Objective of the Role:

The VCU School of Dentistry is inviting applications for a full-time faculty role within the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). This position entails delivering education, guidance, and oversight to residents in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and undergraduate dental students, particularly in patient management and preparation for clinical practice. The core teaching focus will revolve around practice management and operational strategies. Participation in clinical practice and research initiatives is strongly encouraged. The academic rank, eligibility for tenure, and compensation will align with the candidate's qualifications and experience. Additional compensation opportunities may be available through the faculty practice plan.

Key Responsibilities:

Educational Duties:

Faculty members are expected to engage in an integrated curriculum that encompasses both graduate and professional education. Teaching responsibilities will span traditional departmental boundaries and involve collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Faculty are expected to promote transformative learning experiences that are informed by interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. Responsibilities include both clinical and theoretical instruction for pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral residents in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Clinical Responsibilities:

The faculty member will assume a leadership role in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinics and operating environments, engaging with patients, mentoring residents and students, and collaborating with colleagues to enhance clinic efficiency and implement best practices.

Research Engagement:

The faculty member may engage in research activities and will collaborate with ongoing research initiatives within the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department.

Service Contributions:

The faculty member will participate in departmental and university committees as needed, contributing to their professional field.

Required Qualifications:
DDS or DMD degree Completion of an accredited OMFS residency program Eligibility for licensure in Virginia Board certification or active candidacy for certification Ability to instruct practice management through clinical and theoretical experiences for pre-doctoral students and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery post-doctoral residents Proven experience in fostering a diverse educational environment or a commitment to do so as a faculty member Demonstrated capability to teach and mentor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for future dental professionals, incorporating adult learning principles and evidence-based practices Commitment to contributing to a supportive learning and discovery environment Ability to adapt to change and embrace modern educational technologies Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in teaching oral surgery to graduate dental students and post-doctoral residents Advanced proficiency in both outpatient and inpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery Additional Information:
