Position: Storage Area Network (SAN) Administrator

Position Summary:

BuddoBot Inc is seeking a skilled SAN Administrator to deliver expert technical direction and support for storage operations at client locations. The SAN Administrator will play a pivotal role in the client's Enterprise Cloud Infrastructure Services (ECIS) Team, which encompasses various technology sectors that manage and oversee the Government's Enterprise Network virtual and storage infrastructure services, including backup and recovery solutions.

The selected candidate will provide advanced SAN support, which entails configuration, implementation, and management of NetApp SnapCenter and volume snapshots, as well as utilizing management software like ONTAP System Manager. Responsibilities also include recovery procedures, hardware setup, and ensuring the security and accessibility of Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs), along with monitoring storage capacity and performance.

This role demands extensive knowledge of storage clusters, both software and hardware, Windows operating systems, VMware, and networking technologies. The operational environment employs the Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) protocol and is primarily based on NetApp and VMware technologies.

Clearance Requirement: Active DoD – TS/SCI

Compensation: Salary will be determined based on educational background, certifications, relevant work experience, and professional expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the optimal performance of Storage Area Network technologies.
  • Address and resolve SAN-related tickets escalated from the service desk, including executing necessary administrative tasks and providing weekly status updates.
  • Generate monthly SAN Capacity Reports and Performance Metrics.
  • Develop documentation and provide training to Tier 1 service desk personnel for managing standard SAN incidents and service requests.
  • Guide Tier I teams in addressing standard SAN-related issues and requests.
  • Prepare and submit SAN-related Request for Change (RFC) tasks.
  • Coordinate incident management between Tier II, Tier III, and other relevant teams.
  • Utilize government-provided event management tools to monitor SAN health.
  • Support projects involving SAN technologies.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Team and other departments on SAN-related challenges.
  • Participate in the change management process, including submitting requests to the Change Approval Board.
  • Escalate product issues to third-party vendors as necessary.
  • Implement monitoring thresholds and conduct proactive event remediation.
  • Work closely with Government personnel to enhance SAN performance while recommending solutions that optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and improve Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Conduct analysis and remediation for DISA Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIG) in preparation for annual Cyber Readiness Inspections.
  • Provision new storage solutions, including LUNs and VMware datastores, as required.
  • Assist with mailbox restorations in collaboration with the Exchange team, utilizing NetApp Single Mailbox Restore (SMBR).

Required Competencies:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Aptitude for addressing challenges and resolving them positively.

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • Professional certifications such as NetApp (NCDA), EMC (EMCISA), or Virtualization certifications.
  • IAT III Certification (CASP+ce, CCNP Security, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, or GCIH).

Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of iSCSI, CIFS, and NFS protocols.
  • Extensive knowledge of VMware vCenter, HA, and DRS.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing and configuring SAN storage devices.
  • Solid understanding of networking and configuring Windows Server.
  • Experience with SnapCenter is essential.

Work Environment:

  • Standard office environment with general office equipment available.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Possible off-hours work to support system releases and outages.
  • Physical demands include the ability to remain stationary for extended periods and occasional movement of light objects.
