Job Overview

The City of Lansing, MI is seeking a qualified Mechanical Systems Inspector to ensure compliance with mechanical codes and standards. This role involves a thorough understanding of the Michigan code regulations related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and enforce the Uniform Mechanical Code along with other relevant regulations affecting mechanical systems.
  • Identify and address unsafe mechanical installations, ensuring public safety through appropriate measures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of various sites, requiring physical agility to access and evaluate mechanical equipment.
  • Document violations and communicate with contractors and homeowners, ensuring follow-up actions are taken.
  • Utilize a vehicle for travel to inspection locations and related duties.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in relevant fields such as hydronic heating, HVAC, refrigeration, or fire suppression.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • ICC Certification as a Mechanical Inspector is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position demands the ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, twist, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.

Work Environment:

Most work will be conducted in the field, exposing the inspector to various environmental conditions, including dust and debris.
