Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will possess extensive expertise in power distribution, illumination, low voltage systems, and telecommunications design.

The ideal candidate will excel in the planning, design, and coordination of electrical systems, collaborating effectively with team members and clients to fulfill project objectives.

Experience in low voltage systems should encompass security and access control, CCTV, telecommunications with wireless capabilities, high-speed data access, voice/data/video, and a solid understanding of structured cabling standards.

This role requires experience in supervising and guiding a team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently assess, select, and implement standard engineering methodologies, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects.
  • Review plans and prepare or evaluate technical specifications and contract documents.
  • Assist in resolving design challenges, which may involve field investigations, inspections, detailed design work, and thorough verification of design calculations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the growth of the team through strategic planning and the execution of the firm’s overall business and marketing strategies.
  • Prepare cost estimates, periodic reports on construction activities, payment estimates, and documentation to validate material acceptability for final payments.
  • Provide design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications based on actual field conditions.
  • Support the development of technical information to bolster marketing initiatives.
  • Act as a technical resource for MEP team requests related to low voltage systems infrastructure design.
  • Assist in creating low voltage design templates, standards, and guidelines to enhance departmental accuracy and efficiency.
  • Evaluate contractor performance and adherence to construction documents.
  • Coordinate utility infrastructure requirements into low voltage designs.
  • Plan and design low voltage systems, including system layouts, wiring diagrams, equipment selection, and fiber optic/cabling transitions.
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control efforts for the department.
  • Mentor and oversee the production efforts of junior staff, providing feedback to the Team Manager regarding departmental workload.
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required with little or no prior notice.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
  • Experience with low voltage systems in fire alarm security, access control, video, CCTV, and communications.
  • Experience in airport projects is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Office.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive client information.
  • Proficient in English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Licensure

A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required. A Florida Professional Engineer license is mandatory, and the candidate must be able to obtain licensure in other jurisdictions where the company operates.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Preferred supervisory skills.

Telecommuting

This position requires physical presence in the office due to the collaborative nature of the work and the need for in-house client meetings.

Work Environment

The work typically occurs in a clean, comfortable office setting, with occasional site visits in outdoor environments. Site visits may involve areas with high voltage, necessitating extra caution and adherence to safety guidelines.

Physical Requirements

While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee frequently sits for extended periods and may occasionally stand, walk, or perform manual tasks. The ability to lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally is required. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements

As dictated by client site protocols, candidates will be required to utilize appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, hard hats, safety vests, and safety glasses.
