OHB Italia is looking for a talented individual to become part of our Telescopes Department. This role is pivotal in the design, manufacturing, and deployment of advanced telescopic systems aimed at enhancing space surveillance capabilities.

About the Role:
The Telescopes Department focuses on creating innovative solutions for two primary applications:
  • Near-Earth Object (NEO) Monitoring: Engaging in the detection and tracking of potential Earth impactors, such as asteroids.
  • Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST): Aiming to catalog and predict the orbits of objects in Earth's vicinity to prevent collisions and ensure safe reentries.

Our Flyeye Telescope, renowned for its expansive field of view, plays a crucial role in continuously scanning the night sky for hazardous objects, contributing to a safer environment on Earth.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Assist the System Engineer in coordinating a multidisciplinary engineering team for the design, integration, and testing of ground-based telescopes.
  • Support the flow-down of requirements and their allocation to subsystem levels.
  • Contribute to budget management and maintenance processes.
  • Conduct analyses of functional, performance, and interface requirements.
  • Oversee supplier manufacturing processes and acceptance reporting.
  • Engage in system-level integration and verification activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Your Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the design, development, and verification of complex mechanical or opto-mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical manufacturing and assembly processes; knowledge of optical manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Understanding of Gage, Dimension, and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Hands-on experience with the integration, testing, and verification of complex systems, particularly in telescope or opto-mechanical products.
  • Capable of working with moderate supervision while demonstrating strong reporting skills.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on achieving objectives under time constraints.
  • High adaptability, motivation, proactive work ethic, and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Willingness to travel for business purposes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in international and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with NX Siemens or equivalent 3D CAD tools.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Italian and English.
