Position Overview:
The Senior Accounting Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating the monthly financial closing procedures and associated reporting tasks.
This position entails the preparation and management of financial documentation to accurately and promptly monitor DRC's assets, liabilities, income, and other pertinent financial activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate journal entries in compliance with GAAP as part of the closing activities.
- Maintain accounting systems and controls.
- Assist in the month-end financial closing process.
- Organize, update, and compile financial statements and reports.
- Execute general accounting tasks and other related responsibilities for the organization.
- Resolve daily discrepancies in interfaces.
- Reconcile assigned accounts in a timely manner.
- Monitor supplier payables and customer receivables by performing necessary data entry and report generation, while preparing monthly account status reports and maintaining an accurate daily ledger.
- Verify and confirm payments for assigned prepaid invoices related to insurance, ensuring that payments are allocated to the correct accounts and reconciled at month-end.
- Assist external auditors by providing necessary account information and documentation for the annual audit.
- Stay informed about acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Record daily sales and monthly cost of sales for selected markets.
Additional Duties:
Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.
Engage in special projects as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of prior accounting experience with an automated general ledger or business enterprise system is required.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Familiarity with GAAP.
- Strong investigative, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Commitment to maintaining robust accounting control systems.
- Ability to actively engage and take accountability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Strong organizational and follow-up capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Education:
An Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
Certification:
No certification is required.
Communication:
This role involves frequent communication with DRC staff and liquid suppliers.
Decision-Making:
The Senior Accounting Specialist will make routine decisions regarding supplier payable reconciliations and other accounting-related matters.
Safety Considerations:
Safety considerations pertain to proper ergonomics in an office environment, including appropriate workstation and computer terminal setup. Safe and proper use of electronic equipment is expected.
Equipment Utilized:
Equipment used in this role includes a calculator, networked personal computer, printers, photocopiers, telephone, and FAX machine.
Work Environment:
This position is based in an office setting with controlled temperature and lighting. Occasional travel may be required.
Physical Requirements:
This role necessitates frequent sitting, standing, and walking; visual acuity; and regular use of fingers for writing, typing, and handling paperwork; as well as frequent communication involving listening and speaking.
Weight or Force Moved:
Occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing more than 5 pounds, such as computer reports and file boxes, may be necessary. Assistance is available for lifting heavier items.
