Position Overview

As a Mechanical Optics Engineer at Meta, you will play a pivotal role in the advancement of next-generation Augmented Reality (AR) systems. You will collaborate with a dynamic team to transform innovative concepts into tangible products through meticulous mechanical design and rapid prototyping.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Assembly Process: Lead comprehensive discussions on the selection of assembly processes, prototyping, and the requirements for high-precision assembly that meet mechanical and optical standards.
  • Design Reviews: Conduct design for manufacturability (DFM) assessments of display systems integration, focusing on precision alignment techniques and product interface features.
  • Failure Analysis: Oversee FMEA, failure analysis, tolerance analysis, and GD&T activities to support product scalability.
  • Validation Studies: Support process validation studies and proof-of-concept builds for display systems.
  • Tooling Development: Design and implement tooling design of experiments (DOEs) to evaluate equipment architecture and reliability.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with external equipment manufacturers and suppliers to facilitate technology deployment and product development.
  • Automation Integration: Design systems that support automation and high-volume production environments.
  • Engineering Expertise: Apply your engineering knowledge in optics, precision mechanism design, and motion control.
  • Performance Analysis: Drive in-field analysis of equipment performance and document best practices and standard operating procedures.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements
  • Proven experience in optomechanical engineering with a focus on high-precision alignment processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing and implementing high-precision assembly tools for optical devices.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and optical metrology devices.
  • Experience working with international vendors and contract manufacturers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of image processing and optical-display metrics.
  • Experience in designing and prototyping head-mounted optical systems.
