Position Overview: Patient Care Assistant

Role Responsibilities:

  • The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) operates under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) within a vibrant inpatient unit, contributing to a Magnet Recognized academic medical center.
  • Deliver both direct and indirect patient care that is appropriate for various age groups and developmental stages, while actively seeking clarification on tasks.
  • Adhere to the scope of practice for unlicensed assistive personnel, following all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, including attire and communication, to foster a motivated team environment and adapt to changing assignments throughout the shift.
  • Exemplify outstanding customer service through effective interpersonal skills, aligning with best practices to enhance patient and family satisfaction.
  • Encourage a supportive and collaborative workplace among a diverse workforce and patient demographic.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assisting (MA) program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is essential, with a preference for candidates with at least six months of experience as a nursing assistant or MA.
  • Proficiency in fundamental patient care skills and an understanding of the unlicensed healthcare team's responsibilities are crucial.
  • Strong customer service abilities are necessary, along with effective communication skills in English (Spanish preferred) and computer proficiency.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, solve problems, and maintain attention to detail is essential.
  • Capability to manage multiple responsibilities, think critically, and exercise sound judgment is required.
  • Demonstrate assertiveness in policy adherence, perform well under pressure, and collaborate effectively with team members.
