Position Overview:

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist - TPN and VAD plays a vital role in supporting the mission of Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) by aligning with the organization's commitment to excellence in patient care and education.

Under the guidance of the Clinical Nutrition Manager in the TPN/VAD department, this specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments and follow-ups for patients receiving parenteral and enteral nutrition, both in inpatient and outpatient settings.

This role requires collaboration with healthcare professionals to implement effective nutrition strategies and coordinate patient care. Additionally, the specialist will provide essential education to patients and their families regarding parenteral and enteral nutrition.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in patient care rounds, team discussions, and quality assurance meetings.
  • Engage in Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives to ensure the safe administration of nutrition therapies and minimize potential complications.
  • Deliver in-service training and presentations to clinical staff and other stakeholders, contributing to the development of clinical guidelines and reference materials for nutrition support.
  • Mentor and precept junior clinical dietitians, fostering professional growth and competency in specialized clinical nutrition.
  • Facilitate continuing education for staff, including developing training programs and providing clinical rotations for various healthcare professionals.
  • Adapt to assigned work shifts as determined by supervisory staff, providing services across multiple hospital settings.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support departmental goals.

Qualifications:
Must possess a degree from an accredited institution in nutrition or a related field, including completion of a clinical practicum. A minimum of two years of experience in clinical nutrition is required.

Knowledge and Skills:
Extensive knowledge of clinical nutrition principles relevant to the specialty area is essential.

Technical Proficiencies:
Proficient in handling, fine motor skills, and effective communication. Capable of operating various office equipment and maintaining a professional demeanor under pressure. Must demonstrate strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

Licensure and Certification:
Registered Dietitian (RD) certification is mandatory. Board Certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) is expected within one year of employment.
