Position Overview:

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist focusing on Total Parenteral Nutrition and Vascular Access Device (TPN/VAD) is responsible for conducting nutrition assessments and follow-ups for patients utilizing parenteral and enteral nutrition, both in inpatient and outpatient settings.

This role involves close collaboration with the healthcare team to execute nutrition strategies and manage the nutritional care of patients effectively.

Education is a key component, as the specialist provides guidance to patients and their families regarding parenteral and enteral nutrition options. Participation in patient care discussions, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives is expected.

Additionally, the specialist conducts Performance Improvement (PI) evaluations to ensure the appropriateness of infusion solutions and catheter placements, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and minimize potential complications.

In this role, the specialist will also deliver training sessions and presentations to clinical staff and other interested parties, contributing to the development of practice guidelines and resource materials for nutritional support.

Mentorship is a vital aspect of this position, as the specialist will guide and support other clinical dietitians and facilitate specialized clinical nutrition rotations for dietetic and medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities also include assisting in the coordination of clinical coverage, ongoing education for staff, and the creation of necessary training materials and competencies. The specialist will work shifts as assigned by the supervisor, providing services across various facilities as needed.



Qualifications:
Graduate from an accredited institution with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nutrition-related fields, including completion of a clinical practicum.

Minimum of three years of experience in clinical nutrition.

Skills and Competencies:
Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nutrition within the specialty area.

Proficient in handling tasks requiring fine motor skills, speed, and effective communication, both written and verbal.

Able to operate essential office equipment such as calculators, computers, and telephones.


Must demonstrate effective communication skills, ability to collaborate, and maintain professionalism under pressure, ensuring a positive demeanor towards patients, visitors, and colleagues.

Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Spanish is a plus.


Capability to manage multiple projects, make informed decisions, and solve problems effectively. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.

Ability to engage in clear verbal communication and document information accurately is necessary for the role.



Certifications:
Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (RD) is mandatory.

Board Certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) is preferred.
