Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cytotechnologist to join our Anatomic Pathology Department at the University of Chicago Medicine. As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a critical role in the microscopic examination of non-gynecologic and gynecologic specimens, ensuring accurate and timely results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct microscopic examination of specimens, identifying and marking cells of significance
  • Enter interpretations into the laboratory information system, triage cases requiring further evaluation, and issue reports for Pap tests
  • Assist cytopathologists with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) procedures, including completing forms, preparing and staining smears, and accessioning
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment needed for relevant tasks, including microscopes and cytopreparation equipment
  • Maintain quality control and conform to laboratory safety standards
  • Assist with review and documentation of cases for quality assurance programs
  • Provide patient-focused care in a clinical setting through accurate performance of routine and complex tests
  • Answer inquiries regarding specimen handling, results, and technical information
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in cytotechnology, cytology, or a related healthcare science field from an accredited college or university
  • Graduation from an accredited school of cytotechnology
  • Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and graphical computer programs, automated and conventional cytopathology systems, and conventional laboratory equipment
  • Ability to use and understand basic statistical concepts and methods commonly utilized in clinical laboratory science
  • Visual acuity and good manual dexterity and fine motor skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of Cytology experience
