Job Summary

The Anatomic Pathology Operations Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Gross Room and Autopsy Services at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. This position requires a high degree of expertise in anatomic pathology and the ability to work effectively with pathologists, physician-specialists, and other laboratory staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and monitor specimen integrity, quality control records, and quality assurance parameters to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, document control, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and hospital regulations.
  • Participate in planning and maintenance of the laboratory information system (LIS) and ensure that all computer systems-related changes are well-documented and approved.
  • Investigate and resolve patient, technical, and workflow problems related to the Gross Room and Autopsy Services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers, and ensure that service standards are implemented and evaluated.
  • Facilitate a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to patient care and interdepartmental problem solving/service delivery.
  • Instruct pathologists' assistants, surgical pathology technologists, and technicians on new methods and instrumentation, and develop curriculum and oversee the education and training of residents and staff.
  • Assume delegated responsibilities in the absence of the Manager, and oversee the inventory system to ensure appropriate and adequate supply levels to meet department requirements.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and repair activities related to equipment and facilities, and participate in the negotiation of pricing/terms for supplies and maintenance agreements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as laboratory science or healthcare administration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in anatomic pathology or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory information systems, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with pathologists, physician-specialists, and other laboratory staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
