Position Overview

The Employment Services Advisor at the Mental Health Association - Western MA will assist individuals referred from various programs in securing and sustaining employment. This role is crucial for those in recovery from substance use and/or mental health challenges, as well as individuals who have faced homelessness.

This position offers a fulfilling opportunity for someone committed to positively impacting the community and the lives of those we support. The role operates Monday through Friday, with some evening flexibility required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in:
  • Collecting necessary documentation for employment
  • Crafting professional resumes
  • Practicing interview techniques
  • Filling out job applications
  • Navigating disclosure considerations
  • Understanding employment's effect on financial independence, including benefits
  • Setting and achieving employment-related goals
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to employment
  • Communicating effectively with employers regarding concerns
  • Advocating for individual employment needs
  • Exploring vocational interests and transferable skills
  • Completing other related tasks as needed

Additional Duties:

  • Providing on-the-job training and support
  • Networking with local businesses to understand industry demands
  • Maintaining documentation, including progress notes and data entry
  • Conducting vocational assessments
  • Contributing to the development of personalized action and support plans
  • Training staff on the role of employment in recovery
  • Participating in team meetings to discuss individual progress and employment trends
  • Transporting individuals as necessary
  • Representing the organization at employer networking events
  • Engaging in community committees related to vocational rehabilitation

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs of individuals served
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on patience and compassion
  • Proficiency in networking with local business owners
  • Certification in CPR and first aid is required
  • Minimum age of eighteen years

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred
  • Experience in assisting individuals with employment is preferred
  • Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges or recovery from substance use is required
  • Lived experience is a plus
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred
