Chief Optometry Officer

This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides reimbursement for student loan payments. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within the designated timeframe. Approval and award amounts are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the application.

Key Responsibilities
The role is situated within the Surgical Care Service Line at the Veterans Health Care System and reports directly to the Chief of Surgical Care. The Chief Optometry Officer will be tasked with:
- Overseeing a team of Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Health Technicians, and other staff.
- Conducting evaluations of Optometry services, ensuring proficiency and competency through direct observation and chart reviews.
- Engaging in peer review and quality improvement initiatives to maintain high standards of patient care in line with VA regulations.
- Participating in various committees to enhance operational efficiency and patient outcomes.
- Providing comprehensive eye care services, including diagnosis and treatment of ocular conditions.
- Prescribing corrective lenses and other devices to address visual impairments.
- Educating patients and staff on ocular health and disease management.
- Supervising optometry residents and externs, if applicable.
- Coordinating with other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Developing educational programs focused on evidence-based practices for veterans.
- Ensuring compliance with consult triage and clinic access standards.
- Managing performance evaluations and training for all team members.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional criteria specified in the job announcement.
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Education: Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Must hold a full and unrestricted license to practice optometry.
- Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English.
