Overview: The Chief Physician of Emergency Services is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative, clinical, and programmatic oversight for the Emergency Department. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the department meets its clinical, research, and educational objectives.
The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of Staff and act as a vital clinical resource for the Medical Center Director and the Chief of Staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Leadership:
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Emergency Department.
- Ensure the department achieves its clinical, research, and educational targets.
- Engage in hands-on clinical practice while overseeing all operational aspects of the service, including a robust research program and training for residents and other medical trainees.
- Utilize feedback from patients and staff to inform planning and service delivery.
- Direct ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Foster a culture of research and education, translating findings into better patient outcomes.
- Manage the financial aspects of the service, including budget preparation and oversight.
- Collaborate with fellow service chiefs to align with the overall strategic and business objectives of the Medical Center.
Team Development:
- Cultivate a high-performing interdisciplinary team dedicated to excellence in patient care and service delivery.
- Take appropriate actions regarding promotions, selections, and training to enhance team performance.
Clinical Expertise:
- Serve as a consultant in health promotion and disease prevention, employing advanced clinical knowledge to develop and evaluate health programs.
- Ensure that practice-based learning and improvement are integral to the department's operations, using scientific evidence to enhance patient care.
Professional Standards:
- Exhibit professionalism and a commitment to continuous development and ethical practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of healthcare systems and apply this knowledge to improve service delivery.
