Position Overview
This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides reimbursement for student loan payments.

Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within the designated timeframe following their appointment.

Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain active until further notice. The initial review of eligible applications will occur at regular intervals.

The incumbent will oversee the Optometry department, ensuring high standards of patient care and service delivery.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising a team of Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Health Technicians, and other relevant staff.
  • Conducting evaluations of service proficiency and competency through direct observation and chart reviews.
  • Participating in peer review and quality improvement initiatives to uphold patient care standards in line with VA regulations.
  • Engaging in various committees to contribute to the overall healthcare delivery system.
Comprehensive Eye Care Services
The role involves providing extensive eye care services, including:
  • Diagnosing and treating abnormal conditions of the eye.
  • Prescribing corrective lenses and devices.
  • Educating patients and staff on ocular health and disease prevention.
  • Supervising optometry residents and externs.
Collaboration and Coordination
The incumbent will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.

Responsibilities also include developing educational materials for patients and their families, focusing on evidence-based practices.

Work Schedule
This position typically follows a Monday to Friday schedule, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements, including:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution.
  • Full and unrestricted licensure to practice optometry.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
